How They Meditate – Thich Nhat Hanh (Practices)

    10-10-2026 | 16 Min.
This is part of our series How They Meditate, covering various meditation teachers and their styles. Visit https://OneMindDharma.com/howtheymeditate to see all episodes. Please note that unlike previous installments, this episode doesn’t contain an actual sitting meditation.

It’s hard to write a paragraph or two about Thich Nhat Hanh, or Thay as his students call him. A Vietnamese monk, Thay trained in Thien (Vietnamese Zen), studied Buddhist philosophy including Yogacara and Abhidharma, and trained in many early Buddhist texts in both Pali and the Chinese Agamas. Additionally, he has many teachings that are uniquely him.

A poet, activist, teacher, and guiding teacher to countless around the world, Thich Nhat Hanh lived for many years in exile from his home nation. His teachings are firmly rooted in both Thien Buddhism and Yogacara philosphy. I cannot think of a teacher who has more deeply impacted my practice (and my family’s) in daily life.
