    Reflections On the Genesis Narrative

    07-10-2026 | 59 Min.
With the conclusion of the festivals of Tishrei, this week we begin the weekly cycle of Torah readings with the first portion of B’reishith, the start of the Book of Genesis. Jim Long and Rabbi Chaim Richman ponder the creation of man, and share thoughts on this expansive Torah portion. Our hosts also give thanks for the great miracle of the thwarted plane hijacking that took place during Sukkot and examine the media's -- and the world's -- reaction to this unprecedented event... and its meaning. _________

Why is Yom Kippur the Happiest Day of the Year

    16-09-2026 | 1 u.
Yom Kippur, the awesome 'Day of Atonement,' is not only the holiest day of the year...it's also the happiest day of the year. On this day, the world is bathed in a great light of Divine love and forgiveness. But to avail ourselves of its power, we have to be present and focused on 'teshuva' - spiritual return. What is the secret of repentance, and how does one actually go about it? Jim Long and Rabbi Chaim Richman prepare for the arrival of the awesome day...the day when God promises forgiveness and rebirth - and a brand new start - to all who avail themselves of the gift of repentance. May you and your loved ones be sealed in the Book of Life for a life of blessings, joy, good health, prosperity, wisdom, peace, and every Heavenly blessing, and most importantly, closeness to Hashem!_________Rabbi Chaim Richman Jerusalem Lights | Torah for Everyone Follow Rabbi Richman on Substack: https://substack.com/@chaimrichmanJoin our new WhatsApp channel! https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VbDN...Rabbi Chaim Richman's 'Jerusalem Lights', a non-profit educational organization, shares the wisdom of Torah teachings with all sincere spiritual seekers, emphasizing the ennoblement of the human spirit, the brotherhood of mankind, and the nurturing and development of each individual’s personal faith and relationship with the Creator. The Renewal of All Creation

    09-09-2026 | 50 Min.
The holiday of Rosh Hashanah marks not only the beginning of a new year...it is the time when God recreates a completely new world. Every human being -- all Adam's descendants -- are judged and given new life at this holy time. We endeavor to recognize and declare the sovereignty of the Creator, and the penetrating blasts of the shofar remind us of His coronation, while beckoning to us to be mindful of our own great potential for change and total restart. In this week’s Jerusalem Lights podcast, Jim Long and Rabbi Chaim Richman prepare for Rosh Hashanah, birthday of Adam and time of awakening. Jerusalem Lights wishes everyone blessings for a Good and Sweet New Year, to be signed, sealed and delivered in the Book of Life! _________Rabbi Chaim Richman Jerusalem Lights | Torah for Everyone Follow Rabbi Richman on Substack: https://substack.com/@chaimrichmanJoin our new WhatsApp channel! https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VbDN...Rabbi Chaim Richman's 'Jerusalem Lights', a non-profit educational organization, shares the wisdom of Torah teachings with all sincere spiritual seekers, emphasizing the ennoblement of the human spirit, the brotherhood of mankind, and the nurturing and development of each individual’s personal faith and relationship with the Creator. "You Are All Standing Today Before God.."

    02-09-2026 | 1 u. 3 Min.
In this week’s Jerusalem Lights podcast, Jim Long and Rabbi Chaim Richman explore some of the profound themes of the Torah portions of Nitzavim-Vayelech, as the final Shabbat of the year leads us toward Rosh Hashanah. Moshe renews the covenant with Israel one last time, emphasizing personal and collective responsibility, the mystery of “the hidden things belong to Hashem,” the promise and accessibility of teshuvah, and the revolutionary declaration that “the Torah is not in Heaven.” Above all, these portions challenge us to recognize the gift of free choice: to stand honestly before Hashem, choose life, and then move forward into the New Year with courage, faith, and renewed purpose. Don't miss Rabbi Richman's shofar blowing!

    It's All A Gift

    26-08-2026 | 1 u. 2 Min.
The theme of the Torah portion Ki Tavo (Deut. 26:1) is particularly powerful during this month of Elul. In this week's Jerusalem Lights podcast, Jim Long and Rabbi Chaim Richman find that the portion itself seems to contain two utterly different worlds: The farmer walking on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem with his first fruits offering amid music, gratitude and joy-- and the terrifying darkness of the verses of the admonition. But in reality they are not two subjects at all...they are relating to the same concept: the importance of serving God with joy, and learning to appreciate that everything we have in this world, is exactly what we are meant to have. The secret is to learn to receive the blessings in our lives, with joy and appreciation.
