If you don't know Perdita Finn, let me introduce you: Perdita Finn is a writer, a woodwife, an old witch. She has been a chestnut tree in a vanished grove, a she-bear dreaming inside the mountain, and always a mother to blood kin, soul kin, fur kin and odd kin. The dead have, over the past thirty odd years, led her back to the old ways of magic and miracles.


She is the author of Take Back the Magic: Conversations with the Unseen World. With her husband Clark Strand, she wrote The Way of the Rose: The Radical Path of the Divine Feminine Hidden in the Rosary.
 
In this episode, Perdita shares how healing her relationship with her mother helped her heal her relationship with motherhood itself.  Through research she discovered that none of us were ever meant to be mothered by just one person, and the ache of longing to belong can be soothed when we connect with the infinite mothers available to us on the other side.

Key Learnings:


1)    Perdita's mother was a powerful, beautiful, creative, and talented woman. She was a costume designer in the 1930's and was the first women to go to Yale Drama School for design and was forced to become a suburban housewife. By the end of her life she was drinking too much, was resentful and angry. Perdita realized how many women suffered the same fate, of having to squish their talent and light in our current patriarchal society.


2)    When Perdita became a mom for the first time, she realized that the system was set up for her to fail. In indigenous cultures, children are born into kin, and on any given day, a baby will be held by at least seventeen people, and will be fed by many, many women. The idea of one woman being everything to a child is not only ridiculous, it will never be enough.


3)    Yet despite this lack of mothering in our society, there are an infinite number of mothers waiting for you to call on them! When you connect with the vast mothers on the other side, you will finally feel that sense of care and belonging you have been searching for.

But learning to listen to that guidance in everyday life took a little longer. The biggest obstacle was 'coming out' of the spiritual closet and sharing her intuitive gifts with her clients. This changed everything.


2)    Julie's core belief is 'if you have a body, you're intuitive.' There is never a question of being intuitive or not, but it is important to discover what kind of intuitive you are. She helps her clients and students not only identify that, but learn how to trust it.

Here in the Northern Hemisphere, we are entering the Fall Season. The Equinox is a time to reflect on the previous season and see what changes we need to make to create more balance in our lives.


Whether you live in the Northern or Southern Hemisphere, Mother Mary wanted to share a message and meditation to help you receive the blessings of this seasonal shift.

2)    The fall season is a time of letting go. While surrender is not always easy, it is an act of great faith. Mother Mary urges us to let go of the stories that hold us back, and takes us through a powerful meditation to do exactly that.


3)    Whatever is happening in your outer circumstances, your heart is beating and your lungs are breathing. Divine Grace is the energy that beats your heart and breathes your lungs. Focus on feeling that Divine Grace more and more every day.

Have you ever heard of Eileen O'Connor, Australia's next saint?

I recently discovered her while reading the novel Every Inch a Saint – A Novel About Eileen O'Connor, Australia's Next Saint-in-Waiting by author Kate Clinch.

Eileen O'Connor only lived to be twenty-eight and was extremely ill most of her short life, and yet she founded an order called Our Lady's Nurses for the Poor from her sick bed…how did she do it?

I had the privilege of interviewing author Kate Clinch and asking her that exact question in this week's episode! Kate's story is just as fascinating as Eileen's!

Let me tell you a bit about Kate: Born in England, Kate has lived in Adelaide, Australia since she was six years old. She worked as a solo General Practitioner until a near death experience prompted a change of direction and inspired an enduring interest in spirituality and mysticism.

Every Inch a Saint: A Novel About Eileen O'Connor, Australia's Second Saint-in-Waiting is Kate's debut novel. She was diagnosed with cancer during the process of writing Every Inch a Saint, and at that time, Eileen changed from being a fascinating, heartbreakingly inspirational historical figure to a real spiritual companion and source of comfort.

In this episode, Kate shares her own journey of discovering Eileen O'Connor and the profound impact that this sacred friendship has had on her life, and how connecting with this saint can impact yours as well.

2)  Following a suggestion by someone who knew of Eileen O'Connor, Kate went to the historical home of Eileen O'Connor, which contains a chapel that used to be her bedroom. Eileen's body is buried under that room. Kate says "As I sat in the pew of that chapel, the air was electric and I knew I was in the presence of a saint."


3)  Kate describes Eileen's energy as a 'river of grace and compassion.' To connect with her energy, first begin to learn more about her. Reading books about her is a great place to start. Searching for her photos online can help you feel her energy in a powerful way too.
