• Youri Baas - “Het vertrek van Farioli was best wel pittig”

Hij kende een prima seizoen, tot de 2-2 in Groningen die als een mokerslag aankwam. In aflevering 10 van de SEG Stories podcast vertelt Youri hoe hij die knotsgekke laatste maand van de competitie heeft beleefd. “We stonden zó ver voor met nog zó weinig wedstrijden te gaan. Het verval begon tegen N.E.C. en Sparta, maar de klap kwam in de uitwedstrijd tegen Groningen. Na de wedstrijd zat iedereen verslagen en doodstil in de kleedkamer.” Ook het onverwachte vertrek van Farioli raakte hem. “Je ziet de trainer en de assistenten bijna vaker dan je ouders. Als zo iemand dan opeens vertrekt, is dat best pittig. Maar zo gaat dat in de voetballerij.” Juist Farioli gaf hem aan het begin van het seizoen het vertrouwen. “Bij de eerste training wees de trainer opeens: Jorrel links en ik centraal. We keken elkaar aan: andersom toch? Maar hij had zich niet vergist. En het werkte perfect.”Youri is leergierig en vastberaden zich als jonge verdediger verder te ontwikkelen. Hij kijkt scherp naar hoe de routiniers het aanpakken. “Ik kan veel leren van bijvoorbeeld Virgil van Dijk. Hij hoeft maar een keer iets te zeggen en iedereen weer waar hij moet staan. He had a solid season—until the 2–2 draw in Groningen, which hit like a sledgehammer. In episode 10 of the SEG Stories podcast, Youri shares how he experienced that crazy final month of the league.“We were so far ahead with so few matches left. The decline started against N.E.C. and Sparta, but the blow came in the away match against Groningen. After the game, everyone was devastated and completely silent in the dressing room.”The unexpected departure of Farioli also affected him. “You see the coach and assistants more often than your own parents. When someone like that suddenly leaves, it’s pretty tough. But that’s how football works.”It was Farioli who gave him confidence at the start of the season. “During the first training, the coach suddenly pointed: Jorrel on the left and me in the centre. We looked at each other like, ‘Shouldn’t it be the other way around?’ But he hadn’t made a mistake. And it worked out perfectly.”Youri is eager to learn and determined to keep developing as a young defender. He pays close attention to how the veterans approach the game. “I can learn a lot from someone like Virgil van Dijk. He only has to say something once and everyone knows where they need to be. He’s very commanding and direct in his coaching. • Selwyn Senatori - ‘Champagne in the morning’ staat voor vrijheid

Ga naar www.youtube.com/@segstories. In 2024 sloeg SEG de handen ineen met beeldend kunstenaar Selwyn Senatori – de creatieve geest achter onze rebelse jubileum-slogan WE HAVE THE BALLS. Selwyn, geboren in Italië en nu een opvallende verschijning in Amsterdam, staat bekend om zijn scherpe stijl, positieve energie en eigenzinnige kijk op de wereld. Host Joost Hofman spreekt met Selwyn onder meer over thema’s als ego en arrogantie. Hoe ziet Selwyn zijn positie in de kunstwereld? “Ik heb altijd het idee dat ik geen Champions League speel en nog altijd Keuken Kampioen ben. Daar is niks mis mee, ik ben overal geweest in de wereld, ik heb mijn kunst aan iedereen verkocht. En toch heb ik altijd het gevoel dat ik nog moet rammen en maken en presteren.”  Regelmatig verwerkt hij kreten als ‘Champagne in the Morning’ en ‘Out of Office Forever’ in zijn kunstwerken. “Eenvoudige kreten, maar juist daardoor zo krachtig en herkenbaar voor velen. Ze staan voor vrijheid, voor niet willen conformeren. Want we doen allemaal maar wat, we volgen als schapen — maar dat hoeft niet.”Selwyn is vader van vier kinderen en een stuk rustiger geworden sinds hij samen is met Irene. Hij vertelt: “Ik gooi mijn werk nu over een andere boeg. En toen mijn moeder onlangs overleed, viel – gek genoeg – alles op z’n plek. Ik werd rustiger. • Wesley Kreder - “Ik worstel nog steeds met het hoe en waarom”

Hoewel hij nu fysiek weer redelijk de oude is, worstelt hij nog steeds met het hoe en waarom. In de SEG Stories podcast van deze week vertelt Wesley over de impact die de hartstilstand heeft op zijn leven en dat van zijn gezin. Van het moment zelf kan Wesley zich weinig herinneren. “Ik mis veel stukjes. Het gebeurde midden in de nacht. Gelukkig werd mijn vrouw wakker en sloeg alarm, anders had het er heel anders uitgezien.” In eerste instantie wilde hij na zijn herstel doorfietsen. “Daley Blind voetbalt met een S-ICD, dat zou ik toch ook kunnen? Een sportcardioloog zette me met beide benen op de grond: het is klaar.” Wesley is nu thuis en geniet van zijn gezin. Met zijn oudste zoon Milan kan hij nog moeilijk praten over de gebeurtenissen van anderhalf jaar geleden. “Gewoon omdat ik te veel emotie heb, te snel overprikkeld ben. Dan moet ik even naar buiten lopen. Even later pakken we elkaar stevig vast en is het weer goed.” Op weg naar volledig herstel krijgt Wesley begeleiding van Legacy&Life, een organisatie die (ex-)topsporters ondersteunt bij alle veranderingen en uitdagingen na het beëindigen van hun sportloopbaan. “Samen met Menno en Carole van Legacy&Life ben ik een intensief traject ingegaan. Zij helpen mij om mezelf en mijn leven weer op de rit te krijgen.”  Wesley wil persoonlijk bijdragen aan meer bewustwording rond myocarditis. Daarom heeft hij in samenwerking met medisch specialisten de Stichting Sport Hard-t opgericht. “Myocardiale ontsteking komt steeds vaker voor. Veel slachtoffers hebben niet zoveel geluk als ik. De 31-jarige Alkmaarder maakte vorig jaar de transfer naar het Arabische Al-Shabab en vertelt uitgebreid over zijn motieven voor die keuze. Ook gaat hij dieper in op de ziekte van zijn vriendin Emma Heesters en hoe ze daar samen mee omgaan.Wesley is openhartig als het gaat om zijn keuze voor een Saoedische club. “Je kan er omheen draaien, dat het een mooi project en een mooie uitdaging is, maar feit is dat de financiële compensatie ongelooflijk is. Dat mag ook wel, want het is een grote aanpassing en je bent ver weg van vrienden en familie.” Wesley was vroeger geen gemakkelijke jongen en botste regelmatig met trainers en clubs. Nu is hij rustiger. “Als jonge speler wil je te graag, te veel en te snel. Laatst had ik het erover met een voormalig trainer, Stefano Pioli. ‘Ik was vroeger wel ongeduldig, hè.’ We konden er nu hartelijk om lachen.”Eind vorig jaar werd baarmoederhalskanker ontdekt bij Wesley’s vriendin, zangeres Emma Heesters. Er brak een turbulente periode aan voor het stel. “Ze is zo ongelooflijk sterk. De dag dat wij het hoorden, had ze de première van haar show. Die deed ze gewoon alsof er niets aan de hand was. He also opens up about his girlfriend Emma Heesters’ illness and how they’re coping with it together.Wesley is candid about his choice to join a Saudi club. “You can beat around the bush and call it a great project or an exciting challenge, but the fact is that the financial compensation is incredible. And rightly so, because it’s a big adjustment and you’re far away from friends and family.”Wesley wasn’t the easiest character in his younger years, regularly clashing with coaches and clubs. Now, he’s calmed down. “As a young player, you want too much, too soon. I was talking about it recently with a former coach of mine, Stefano Pioli. ‘I used to be quite impatient, didn’t I?’ We could laugh about it now.”At the end of last year, Wesley’s girlfriend, famous singer Emma Heesters, was diagnosed with cervical cancer. A turbulent period began for the couple. “She is incredibly strong. The day we found out about it she had the premiere of her show. She did it as if nothing had happened.
