  • King Princess Talks RIP KP, 1950, Lesbian Drama, and New Album 'Girl Violence'
Strap in because a conversation with King Princess is an unstoppable stream of top-notch banter, whipsmart quips, real talk, and tea. Brooklyn-born Mikaela Strauss joins on the couch for the first time to discuss her third album, Girl Violence, her hookiest, most vulnerable record to date. Since dropping ‘1950’ back in 2018 when she was still a teenager (it became a viral sensation; Harry Styles tweeted about it), the singer/producer/multi-instrumentalist has upped the ante with every release. With Girl Violence the 26-year-old holds a magnifying glass to drama, heartbreak, and “emotional warfare” of lesbian relationships. We take a deep dive into her theories and the stories behind her songs, plus her fantastical queer dress-up party Bazongas (you’re invited), the fetishistic angle of her Instagram algorithm, how she got the iconic Lisa Rena to take part in her album campaign, and who the hell is chaos-demon Cherry. She also discusses collaborating with IDLES’ Joe Talbot, jumping in the studio with Charli XCX, and what it’s like to go from zero to 100 on your first release — the pressure, the ego, the destabilization. Plus there’s a whole sidebar about her former home in LA being invaded by 30,000 bees and we get the full story of her great-great grandparents, who were immortalized as the old couple spooning in bed in James Cameron’s Titanic. No, really. • Jakob Nowell of Sublime Talks His Father's Legacy, Ensenada, Addiction and Santeria
With songs like ‘Santeria,’ ‘What I Got,’ and ‘Wrong Way,’ ska-punk band Sublime’s music is a forever slice 90s SoCal, their songs ultimately becoming the soundtrack to pop culture from the era and beyond. Tragically, in 1996 singer Bradley Nowell died from a heroin overdose at 28-years-old before the Long Beach trio made it big. In the subsequent years the remaining members, Bud Gaugh and Eric Wilson, joined forces with Rome Ramirez to form Sublime with Rome, but in 2024 they revealed a whole new line-up, making their official live debut at Coachella with Nowell’s son, Jakob taking centerstage on the mic. The now 30-year-old was just ten months old when his dad passed, a legacy and loss which has and continues to loom large. An artist in his own right as the driving force between emo-glitch-ska band Jakobs Castle, the singer/guitarist hasn’t had the easiest ride, including a troubled childhood, substance issues which has ultimately resulted in nearly a decade of sobriety. We get into all this, plus he explains how the creative process with Sublime works today, exclusively announcing an album of brand new Sublime album — Till the Sun Explodes — coming early next year and letting us hear sneak peaks of not one, but two new tracks. Turns out the new Sublime cuts are not only a collaboration with Bud and Eric, who he affectionately calls his Uncs, but also Jakob’s peers and pals, including Zac from Fidlar. We also discuss the possibility of a Sublime biopic, the passing of Jakob’s hairless cat, and his perhaps somewhat surprising stance on drugs, plus so much more. • The Runarounds Talk First Time Acting, Outer Banks, Senior Year, and New Series "The Runarounds"
Meet The Runarounds — both the cast of Prime’s new YA series and an actual IRL band comprised of singer/guitarists William Lipton and Axel Ellis, guitarist Jeremy Yun, bassist Jesse Golliher, and drummer Zendé Murdock. We unravel their origin story: who’s known each other since they were kids, who got involved thanks to casting call for a band for the series Outer Banks (another YA series created by Jonas Pate, who also helms this show), and just where do the real life band and the characters they play begin and end. Spoiler alert — there’s a lot of overlap. Their creative development as a band does mirror the arc of the show and some of the stories of how they were raised do wind up being mirrored in the script. With the exception of William Lipton, who had a long-running role on General Hospital, all these guys were diving into acting head first with zero experience. We talk about all this plus, their indie rock influences, stunts, plot twists, moral quandaries, anxiety issues, learning to act in front of the lens, and why this took half a decade to hit our small screens. • KUN Talks New Song “Jasmine,” Love, Loneliness, Nine Percent and "Deadman"
Perhaps you know KUN from the reality show Idol Producer and the band Nine Percent. Maybe you’re an OG fan from back in his SWIN days thanks to the Chinese reality show Super Producer. Or maybe you’re a latter day convert from his work on season 2 of Youth with You alongside Lisa of Blackpink, Ella Chen, and Jony J. Any which way you slice it — whether on reality shows or part of a group or as a solo star in his own right — the Wenzhou-born artist has packed a lot into his 27 years. A big deal, a fashion fiend, the guy has his own Madame Tussaud’s waxwork. On the couch KUN opens up about his path to now — from his tough times as a teen in the idol system, the two years of rigorous training, far from home, not knowing the language, not to mention everything he learned — to how he feels about his past releases, and the old man inside him. KUN also talks about his romantic side, the one who watches flicks like The Notebook and Titanic, and his new work, singles like ‘Deadman’ and ‘Jasmine’ which show off his soulful side, his vintage influences in clothes and music (Bowie, traditional Chinese ballads, Winehouse). He’s fun, funny, and a great hang. And he also has a crack at styling Dan’s hair.SUBSCRIBE to Our Podcast ►►https://tinyurl.com/48yfe4v5SUBSCRIBE to YT ►►https://tinyurl.com/5n8km55uSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

  • Tom Odell Talks Another Love, Independence, “Ugly,” Billie Eilish, and New Album ‘A Wonderful Life’
Incredibly — given the breadth and heft of his career — this is the first time Tom Odell has hopped on our couch. The English songwriter’s been soul-searching and plundering his own emotional depths to sett to piano-driven pop since 2013, signing to Lily Allen’s short-lived Sony imprint (more on that in the chat), and releasing instant smash ‘Another Love.’ It’s a song that’s taken on a whole new meaning and had a whole new lease of life thanks to TikTok, finding uplifting resonance for many amidst the ongoing Ukranian-Russian war. Now an independent artist — let’s just say major label life was rough despite his success — Odell is back with his new, seventh album, A Wonderful Life. And he’s playing arenas! We find out about its creation, existential dread brought on by observances of this modern age, not to mention introspection and the dark before the light. He also discusses his unique relationship with Billie Eilish (who he just finished touring with), and FINNEAS, the resurgence of ‘Another Love,’ and the power of audience and authenticity. We go deep into self-analysis, body-image and perception on new song ‘Ugly,’ anxiety, and the tough times he had in 2021, struggling to sell shows before leaving Sony and phoenix rising-style absolutely smashing it (to borrow British parlance). There was also quite a harrowing encounter with a rattlesnake in Utah, plus so much more.
