This month’s episode comes from a recording from Dimensions Festival last year, where I am lucky enough to be invited to host a series of live talks on site. You’ll find me back at the festival this year hosting talks at The Haze stage on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, so please come say hello!

Last year it was our deep pleasure to host a UK icon, the inimitable DJ and producer Grace Sands. What follows is a recording of our live conversation, made possible by our friends at The Mudd Show. I hope you enjoy listening and I hope to see you all back at dimensions next month.

And finally some news: my book BREAKTHROUGH is out in the world! BREAKTHROUGH is an interview project I’ve been working on for the past four years, and speaking with artists about the seminal records they’ve made, from idea to production to release, and all the changes that come along with your first success. It’s been a very wild ride. The book’s final form features 20 interviews and clocks in at nearly 300 pages; I see it as a tool for musicians and artists of all kinds, but for me its also a meditation on the creative act and a refuge for makers when things get tough.

My guests for AIR's 85th episode are none other than @donato-dozzy and @neel, also known as Voices from the Lake.

Each beloved producers and DJs in their own right, Donato and Neel have been bound together by music since the earliest days of their friendship, and Voices from the Lake is the logical continuation of that union, part improvisation, part dialogue, all trust. Forged for what was meant to be a one-time-only live showcase for @mindgameslaby in Japan, their closing set would form the basis of one of the most renowned ambient techno albums, their self-titled debut Voices from the Lake. Their follow up album, simply titled II, was released last year, over a decade since the first but well worth the wait. It’s not a remake, but rather a completely new dimension that speaks to their growth as artists.

In this conversation, we’re looking back at Voices from the Lake, the project’s evolution, their deep connection as friends and collaborators, and the milestones that still mean so much to them.

Joining me this month is saxophonist, vocalist, and producer @laura-emma-misch. A South London born musician, Laura began releasing her bedroom-produced EPs around 2017, until, feeling constricted and isolated by her recording environment, she moved her practice outdoors and into nature. The result was 2023’s Sample The Sky, her debut album produced in response to the natural world. Her 2026 album Lithic was similarly crafted in outdoor spaces, inspired by stone and thus recorded in caves and quarries around the UK, and completed with percussion made by shell and rock. The music itself likewise harnesses the wind, not only in her ethereal vocals but also in the musing breath of her saxophone. In this conversation, we talk about breath and its importance for the horn, her unique approach to music making, and the necessity of a dialogue with the natural world.

This month we’re on episode 83 and my guest is Berlin based DJ, producer, and subglow boss CCL.

Even if you’ve never seen a @ccl-url DJ set, you’ve probably listened to one of their many, many mixtapes — the consummate dreamweaver, CCL’s musical storytelling is unparalleled in its ingenuity. Unbound by genre, tempo, or style, and with a massive archive to back them up, CCL’s mixtapes are a lesson in world-building and deep sonic imagination. Their T4T mixtape A Night At the Skull Discotheque, and their NTS series Invisible Cities, which transforms an imagined city into a musical journey, have become instant classics, a perfect extension of their DJing which also seeks to explore, experiment, and express. In this conversation, we delve into CCL’s relationship to creativity, their commitment to pushing their own boundaries, and their pursuit of explosive imagination.

This month’s guest needs little introduction.... Welcome to the show German DJ and producer @Chris-Liebing.

A DJ first and foremost, Chris has grown his craft playing on the world’s biggest and best techno stages, all the while, learning to produce alongside collaborators like Ralf Hildenbeutel and Andre Walter, and putting out a steady stream of work: 2003’s Evolution, 2018’s Burn Slow, 2021’s AnotherDay, and a collaborative project with Speedy J… Keen to push himself further and distill a sound made by his hands only, his new album EVOLVER is technically his very first fully fledged solo project, at nearly three decades in the game. In this conversation, we’re diving deep into EVOLVER, self-exploration, and the siren song of solo creativity.
