A hunter in the mountains of Northern California looked down from a ridge and saw a massive creature kneeling beside a river.

He watched it cup water in its hand and drink.

Then it carefully smoothed the sand to erase its tracks.

Erica Canevari is a Northern California author, farrier, equestrian, and lifelong Humboldt County local. Her novel The Carrying draws on her knowledge of Bigfoot, horses, wilderness travel, and the Marble Mountains. Behind the fiction are years spent listening to the people who say they’ve encountered something unexplained in this legendary corner of Bigfoot country.

Erica has collected stories from hunters, tribal members, horse owners, heavy-equipment operators, and people traveling the remote highways of Northern California.

In this episode, she shares reports of an orangutan-like creature stopping in the middle of a highway, a heavy-equipment operator who believed he was surrounded in the mountains, strange activity around the Hoopa Reservation, unexplained sounds deep in the redwoods, and a woman who reported watching something enter a glowing portal near Eureka.

Erica also takes us into the Marble Mountains, Dinsmore, Highway 36, Humboldt’s dark rural roads, and the patterns she has noticed after listening to roughly 1,500 firsthand accounts and testimonies.

A truck driver pulls off a remote highway in the Utah high desert around 3:00 AM, more than 40 miles from the nearest town. While trying to sleep inside his semi, he hears three deliberate knocks against the truck.

Then the knocking moves.

Over the next hour, it comes from different sides of the cab as he repeatedly turns on his lights and searches the empty desert around him. Eventually, something strikes the semi with enough force to rock the entire truck.

Matthew shares what happened when he finally decided to drive away, along with other unexplained experiences from his years crossing America as a long-haul trucker.

For 45 minutes, something tapped against a window approximately nine feet above the ground while John Bertoli lay alone inside a remote yurt near Mount Adams.

John’s experiences began decades earlier in the forests surrounding Williamstown, Massachusetts. As a child, he repeatedly felt watched along the Taconic Crest Trail and heard what sounded like groups of voices near an abandoned homestead in Hopkins Memorial Forest. Later incidents included an unexplained pressure wave near Cole Avenue, a tree falling moments after he requested a sign, and three concealed presences sensed on Pine Cobble Mountain.

His search eventually led him across the country to ECETI Ranch in Washington, where he lived for eight months. John shares two visual sightings, wood knocks around the Field of Dreams, heavy footsteps approaching through the darkness, a voice calling his name near his tent, and the prolonged nighttime activity outside the yurt.

John also discusses telepathy, consciousness, the connections he perceives between Sasquatch and UFO activity, and the importance of approaching these experiences with respect and clear intentions.

Joel Sturgis was alone at Whiteface Reservoir in northern Minnesota when a powerful odor began moving around his campsite. Then he noticed red eyes beyond the firelight. When he looked again, a massive blond Bigfoot was standing approximately 20 feet away, silently watching him.

Joel shares the close-range encounter that kept him out of the woods for three years, the reports he later collected from people living near the reservoir, and his 1994 investigation with Loren Coleman in East Texas. He also takes us inside his years as a Coast to Coast AM board operator, his friendship with Art Bell, and his visit to the Sherman Ranch before it became widely known as Skinwalker Ranch.

During a rainy family drive near Mount Rainier, Donnie and his daughter witnessed an enormous upright figure moving beside a roadside elk. Donnie estimates that it stood at least 10 feet tall, with a massive build, unusually thick hair, and a smooth, confident stride.

The figure remained visible for approximately five seconds before returning to the forest. Years later, Donnie can still picture its proportions, active facial expressions, and the face he says will stay with him for the rest of his life.
