Murder In America

By 23, Ricky Wassenaar had established himself as a career criminal, destined for a life behind bars. But no one could have possibly expected that his darkest crimes wouldn’t even begin until the cell door shut behind him. Most of our cases end with someone going to prison. But Ricky’s was just beginning. Over a 20-year period, Ricky tried to escape, staged a riot, and ultimately went on to orchestrate a series of murders, ones that ended with Ricky saying, “My only regret is that I didn’t kill more.”-

It started with a possession. An 11-year-old boy, left gasping for breath and writhing on the floor as a demon took control of his body. That story, in and of itself, had people all around the world entranced. But then… the story somehow got worse. There were pleas to the Catholic church. Violent episodes, and finally, a brutal murder. And then came the infamous words: "The devil made me do it".-

At first, 16-year-old Devon Griffin was sure he was looking at a Halloween prank. As he stood over his parents' bed, where two bodies lay, drenched in blood, it was the only thing that made sense. The reality was too horrible to comprehend: That his mother and stepdad had been killed as they slept in bed, defenseless. But even that reality didn’t capture the true horror of what had happened inside the house. Because upstairs lay another body. And miles away was the killer: someone Devon knew and loved.

On September 18th, 2023, officers in Romeoville, Illinois, knew they were facing something they had never seen before. As they peered in the windows of a darkened family home, the flashes of what lay inside made their stomachs churn. Three dogs, shot. Furniture turned over. Belongings strewn across the room like a robbery gone wrong. The young family that lived in the home: 32-year-old Alberto Rolon, 38-year-old Zoraida Bartolomei, and their boys, nine-year-old Adriel and seven-year-old Diego, were missing. As police looked inside, nothing could have prepared them for where the family ended up: Or why.
