Ireland Crimes and Mysteries

This week’s Ireland Crimes and Mysteries Weekly Roundup begins in Waterford, with the funeral of Philip and Kim English and their sons, Callum and Jayden, and further arrests in the investigation into the arson attack on their home.
I also cover the latest coroner’s court hearing in Joe Deacy’s case, the conflicting medical evidence heard at Laura Marshall’s inquest, and developments in Julie Ann McIlwaine’s case following the overturning of her murder conviction.
There are sentencing updates in the cases of Paula Canty and Paul Connolly, the sentences imposed on Jeffrey Donaldson and George Gibney, and a prosecution over the breach of survivors’ anonymity.
Plus, a murder charge in Mark Cullen’s case, a renewed appeal from Kelly Lynch’s family, and the investigation into Paul O’Connor’s death in Mallow.

Eoghan Chada was ten, loved cooking and magic tricks, and had bought a calf with his Communion money. His five-year-old brother Ruairi loved tractors, dancing and following his big brother. At home, they were Oe and Ru.
On Sunday, 28 July 2013, the boys left their home in Ballinkillen, County Carlow, with their father, Sanjeev, for what their mother Kathleen understood would be a trip to the bowling alley. When they didn’t return, she began trying to find them.
In Part One, we get to know Eoghan and Ruairi through their family life and Kathleen’s memories, before following the search for the brothers and the devastating discovery that their father had murdered them.

Join Nules for the Ireland Crimes and Mysteries Weekly Roundup, an extra episode catching up on Irish crime stories in the news.
From court proceedings and missing person appeals to new developments in unsolved cases, we’ll look at what’s been happening recently across Ireland. Some will be cases we’ve covered on the podcast, while others will be new to listeners, with a brief background to bring you up to date.
Alongside your regular Sunday episode, it’s a chance to keep up with these cases as they develop.

On a September night in 2020, 27-year-old Cian Langelaan disappeared in Donegal. Cian was quiet, gentle and deeply thoughtful, with a love of music, gaming and the outdoors.
The circumstances surrounding his disappearance appeared to point in one direction. But as the years passed, information emerged that raised an entirely different possibility.
What happened to Cian that night? And could the answer lie far from where the search first began?
This is the story of Cian Langelaan, the questions left behind and a mother who has never stopped looking for her son.
