For two young sisters, the old hunting shack on their grandfather's farm was the perfect place to play.
Hidden out in the fields, it became their summer hideaway until one afternoon, when someone knocked on the door. Assuming it was their brother trying to scare them, they came up with a plan to surprise him instead. But when one sister stepped outside, there wasn't a soul in sight.
The other turned back toward the corner of the shack... and froze. Standing silently inside was a man she had never seen before, his appearance so disturbing that she bolted for the house in terror.
No one believed what she'd seen, dismissing it as a child's imagination. Years later, after another family member experienced the same mysterious knocking in that very shack, the terrifying encounter suddenly became much harder to explain.

Rob and Teresa Heckenlively never set out to own a haunted hotel. During a family vacation to Osceola, Missouri, they called a realtor simply because they wanted to see inside the long-vacant Commercial Hotel. They weren't looking to buy a historic landmark—but by the end of the tour, that's exactly what they wanted to do.
Built in 1867 after the Civil War's Sacking of Osceola destroyed an earlier hotel on the property, the Commercial Hotel has welcomed famous guests including President Harry Truman and brothers Jesse and Frank James. Today, many believe not every guest has ever truly checked out.
As Rob and Teresa began bringing the historic hotel back to life, they discovered they weren't the only ones invested in its future. Before the restoration was even complete, Rob had an encounter so unsettling it kept him away from the hotel for months. Since then, guests have reported heavy footsteps, voices in empty hallways, shadow figures, and other unexplained encounters that continue to fuel the hotel's haunted reputation.

Her roommate had warned her from the beginning that someone else seemed to share the apartment. Not something frightening. Just a quiet little boy who occasionally made his presence known.

When she found her mother's unfinished family tree tucked away in an old box, she never imagined it would lead her to a forgotten country cemetery two hours from home.
