It felt like they had gotten lucky.
A first home, a great property, and a price that didn’t quite match what it should have been. The kind of situation you don’t question too much when everything seems to fall into place.
And for a while, nothing stood out.

It was supposed to be a simple weekend away—friends renting a house, splitting up rooms, and settling in for the night after a long day.

When she first moved into the small house in her early twenties, nothing about it felt unusual. It was older, a little mismatched in places, but comfortable enough to feel like home. Aside from the occasional odd noise or fleeting movement out of the corner of her eye, everything seemed normal.
