The Midnight Project Techno Music

Midnighters, thank you for another week of showing up. Here is where the hour goes.
It opens with something that is five days old. Zafer Atabey's Keep It Going landed on TRAGEDIE on 28 August, built by the Turkish producer who co-runs EXTIMA, and it does exactly what the title promises. Rino Cerrone follows with Afterglow, Italian discipline, no wasted parts. Then Avision with How We Do It, a Suara cut from his Simple Things EP. Anthony Cardinale has been quietly carrying the New York techno flag for years and this one still hits like it was made last month.
The middle of the hour is where I had the most fun building. Cirez D's On Off is the one throwback here, Eric Prydz in his techno skin on his own Mouseville imprint, and nothing has aged about it. Marco Bailey follows with Full Steam on COD3 QR, which is the label Laurent Garnier runs with Oliver Way. That makes two Garnier connections in twenty minutes, because Garnier is also the one who pulled the Avision track into his fabric presents compilation. Not planned, but I noticed it while I was mixing and left it in.
Then Mescaline. 1200 Micrograms wrote it as psytrance and Victor Ruiz and Alex Stein rebuilt it for VOLTA. It came out on 27 August and it is already sitting near the top of the Beatport peak time chart. Psytrance DNA, techno chassis, and it works on a rooftop at sunset better than it has any right to.
From there we stay heavy. Belocca's Human Construct on Mainground Music brings the tension down and the weight up, Nikoretti's Beyond the Edge keeps it moving, and Devid Dega's Want You Back arrives on Second State, which is still one of the most consistent rooms in techno. Sisko Electrofanatik and Alex Micca close that stretch with Anairod on Off Recordings.
The last quarter is the payoff. Alan Fitzpatrick's Zero Compliance mix of We Do What We Want on We Are The Brave is his own label and his own statement, and the title does not need my help. Franco Smith's Anthem on Natura Viva is exactly what the name says. And we finish with Marie Vaunt and Space 92, Go Go Go on TAKEOFF, because sometimes the last three minutes just need to run.

The rooftop session at Tomorrowland was last night. Thank you to everyone who came up. That crowd made the last hour of the night feel like the room was playing itself, and a good part of what you hear this week is what worked up there while it was still warm.
We open on Drumcode. Volkoder and Korolova with "Waiting For You" sets the temperature straight away, no ceremony, just the pull. Tim Kollberg follows on Gain Records with "Pleasure State," which is one of four Gain records in this episode. That was not a plan. It is just where the good stuff kept landing this month.
Then something a little sideways. Victor Ruiz took Liquid Soul and Captain Hook and pulled "Liquid Hook" out of psy territory and into something with real floor weight. It is the widest moment in the first half and it earns its place.
"Retriever" sits at fifteen minutes in. My own, named after the dog most of you have already met on Instagram. It has been in every set since I finished it and it keeps doing the same thing to a room, so it stays.
The middle of the show is where the groove takes over. Sisko Electrofanatik and Katerino go straight for the low end. Devid Dega on Second State brings the kind of old school devotion the title promises, and Jil Tanner keeps the pressure honest without ever raising her voice. Monika Kruse's "Morgana" in Patrik Berg's hands is the moment I would point a new listener to. It breathes.
From Norvis onward it climbs. Jay Lumen's "Dance4Life" on Arcane is unapologetic peak time, digi.codes answers it with something colder and sharper, and Melvin Spix with TimeKube strip it back to exactly what is needed. That strip-back is the part I care most about. Give people less and they lean in.
Procombo's "Unknown Force B" is the last hard turn before Franco Smith closes it out with "Anthem" on Natura Viva. Big title, and it holds up.

Episode 220 is here, and this one moves with purpose. We open deep and hypnotic, then build steadily into the kind of driving groove that defines the peak hours. Along the way there is a proper surprise: a remastered take on a nineties classic that some of you will recognise from the very first bars. Hearing it reworked with today's production standards, sitting comfortably next to brand new records, reminds me why this music keeps pulling us back.
The second half leans harder. Rolling percussion, big rooms, open eyes. If you are listening on a Wednesday night drive or deep into a late session, this stretch is for you.

Last week you showed up in numbers that still make me smile, and the best way I know to say thank you is to raise the bar again. So this week we go deep into Drumcode territory. Pan-Pot's Diamonds Head sets the pace on Mobilee, then Adam Beyer takes over the first quarter of the hour twice in a row. Alto with Layton Giordani is rave kissed and written in a major key, built from the same vocal source as The Orb's Little Fluffy Clouds, and Let Loose with DJ Jock keeps that Drumcode drive rolling straight into Freak Your Mind on Truesoul.
Around the halfway point, I slipped in one of my own. Retriever is my new track, named after the four-legged member of this household, and it sits between the warm groove of Chemistry by Dhuna and Pablo Say and the low-end pressure of Feel My Bass. From there, Jay Lumen and DJ Jordan push the tempo before 6 SENSE tells you exactly what to do with Say It.
The final stretch goes big. Free My Soul, the brand new collaboration between Vini Vici, Space 92 and CERES on Armada, dropped only days ago and already feels like a festival closer. Psytrance energy, techno drums, one soaring vocal. I follow it with the Olly James rework of Cosmic Gate's Exploration Of Space, a classic reborn, then land the hour with Disco Move and Strange Days.

Midnighters, last week I told you we are bringing the groove back to Ibiza. Then Friday happened. The rooftop filled up, the sun went down over Playa d'en Bossa, and a lot of you told me you came through the show. That is the whole point of this project, and episode 218 picks up exactly where that night left off.
We open with Per Hammar's "Shuriken" on Natura Viva Black. Sharp, stripped, straight into the pocket. Yes, that label again. Three weeks running now they have earned a spot in the show, and this one shows why. Victor Ruiz and Kaufmann follow with "Don't Mess With Us" on VOLTA, a collaboration that sounds exactly as confident as the title suggests.
The middle of the hour is where it gets physical. JLuna's "Emergency SEQ," Teenage Mutants' "Conflicted Mind," and A.D.H.S. back for the second week in a row, this time with "Eos" on DCLTD. Then Pan-Pot land "Futoreno" on Second State, and right after it comes my favorite moment of the episode: Mark Broom's remix of "Tropical Melons" by 2000 And One on Rekids. A Dutch classic, rebuilt by one of the UK's finest. I have loved this record since my Amsterdam years, and hearing it come back around like this made my week.
The back half runs from the YellowHeads' peak mode "Reboot.exe" into Giorgia Angiuli's "Light" on Terminal M, the melodic breath of the hour. Ilona Maras keeps it honest with "Don't Pretend," and JSPR closes on We Are The Brave with "Japan Air."
