Meet the Pro: Photographer, Alan Schaller

    03-10-2026 | 48 Min.
Host Toby Jermyn welcomes London-based Leica ambassador Alan Schaller, known for high-contrast black-and-white street photography featured at the Saatchi Gallery and in major publications.
Alan discusses selecting images for the show and his upcoming book Street Safari, explaining how photographing animals in cities helped him connect with people and build confidence. He describes a cover image of “yin and yang” swans shot in St James’s Park on the day of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral, his use of a Leica Monochrom and pre-visualisation, and a desert scene in Dubai created on assignment.
Alan shares how he transitioned from a music career into photography, co-founded Street Photography International, and developed a relationship with Leica. He talks about photographing Japanese band ONE OK ROCK, launching the photo-only platform Iris and Iris Publishing, choosing a dog portrait on Millennium Bridge, and admiring Pentti Sammallahti’s work.

Meet the Pro: Wildlife Photographer, Nelis Wolmarans

    19-09-2026 | 45 Min.
Host Toby Jermyn welcomes award-winning South African wildlife photographer and private guide Nelis Wolmarans, known for extensive experience with Africa’s great apes, including 131 gorilla treks.

Nelis shares the story behind his grand-prize-winning Rwanda mountain gorilla mother-and-infant photo that was displayed at the Smithsonian, plus an encounter where a silverback charged, knocked him over, and sat on his legs.

They discuss differences between Rwanda/DRC and Uganda gorilla habitats and permit prices, why two treks help guests settle into photographing gorillas, and practical guidance on settings and lens choices.

Nelis also presents images from a Mara wildebeest river crossing, an elephant bull among winter thorn trees in Lower Zambezi, and a young chimpanzee in Kibale, with tips for forest light challenges and chimp habituation treks. He highlights an admired leopard image by Mark Nicholson and discloses his remote “humble dwelling” location.

Meet the Pro: Wildlife Photographer, Juan Pons

    05-09-2026 | 41 Min.
Host Toby Jermyn welcomes wildlife and nature photographer Juan Pons, a Puerto Rico-born, Florida-based workshop leader with over 30 years of experience.
In this episode, Juan selects five wall images for his humble dwelling: an African wild dog spy-hopping in Botswana’s Okavango Delta while hunting red lechwe; king penguins in South Georgia set against misty mountains, featuring a flying skua and a discussion on low-angle shooting restrictions; a wide composite sequence of a Yellowstone red fox mousing, stitched together in Photoshop; and a close-up encounter with a ghost-like snow leopard in the remote Himalayas stepping into view before a frozen waterfall.
Juan also recounts discovering photography at boarding school, teaching early digital techniques, building his workshop business, and co-hosting The Digital Photo Experience podcast for nine years. Finally, he shares his admiration for Frans Lanting’s sunset elephants in Chobe and reveals his dream bases in Botswana and Costa Rica.

Meet The Pro: Wildlife Photographer Andy Rouse

    22-08-2026 | 49 Min.
Host Toby Jermyn welcomes British wildlife photographer, tour leader, and conservationist Andy Rouse to the Pangolin Podcast, where guests choose four of their own images and one by another photographer for their remote “humble dwelling.”

Rouse recounts winning a humorous category at BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year as a student with an image of a fox chewing a garden gnome, then shares stories and technique behind his chosen photographs: subadult tigers fighting in Ranthambore, a wide-angle spectacled bear portrait from Ecuador’s cloud forest, an atmospheric roe deer image made through stalking and underexposure for mood, and a creative night pan of Kenya’s black leopard “Geezer” shot at ISO 51,200.

He discusses fieldcraft, ethical distance, guiding clients, publishing standards, creativity through failure, and mental health, then chooses rural Wiltshire as his forever location and admires Sergey Gorshkov’s backlit elephant photograph.
