Drawing on Church history, councils, theologians, and papal writings, Mazza contends that the Catholic Church has consistently taught that a pope cannot officially teach heresy through the Church's magisterium. Accepting the idea of a pope promulgating doctrinal error while remaining pope creates a theological contradiction. Historical debates over heretical popes and antipopes are not abstract; they are precedents.

Looking at historical examples of saints, bishops, and lay Catholics confronting suspected antipopes and heresy: St. Columba, St. Catherine of Siena, St. Vincent Ferrer. Church history demonstrates that faithful Catholics have sometimes publicly challenged ecclesiastical authorities when they believed the faith was endangered, while also stressing the importance of charity toward those who disagree.

Sarah Lee Morse was a substitute teacher in Scotland. Students asked her repeatedly about abortion. She answered honestly: "As a faithful Catholic, I don't agree with it. I don't support it." She acknowledged others disagreed. She redirected students to their work. She was dismissed the same day.
No warning. No opportunity to explain. Just termination for expressing a religious belief—in response to a question she did not initiate.
Morse is now pursuing a discrimination claim based on religious belief. She argues that students should be exposed to differing opinions, not indoctrinated into a single viewpoint. When a student pressed her on abortion in cases of rape, she responded: "I don't think it's right to punish a child for something bad that the parent did."

A monsignor with decades of service in canon law, including work in Peru and the Diocese of Colorado Springs, was laicized just days before the conclave that elected Pope Leo XIV. He claims it was not justice. It was retaliation.
The monsignor alleges that false accusations, manipulated evidence, and irregular canonical procedures were used to destroy his reputation after he defended alleged abuse victims and publicly criticized influential Church leaders. He says he was never shown a formal decree of dismissal. He says due process was never afforded. He says the Church authorities who destroyed him relied on power, not law.
At the center of his accusations: Pope Leo XIV, then Cardinal Robert Prevost, whom the monsignor accuses of covering up abuse and orchestrating his removal.
