“Johannes” grew up under Communism as a Christian in East Germany. As a kid, he faced ostracism and limited opportunities. These pressures followed him into adulthood. He refused to compromise his conscience or “go along to get along.” Instead he stood for what he believed in. But these actions came at a price. And it was not him alone who had to paid it. It also affected his wife and his kids.
What was life like in East Germany before the Iron Curtain fell? What helped Johannes through the challenges of living faithfully under an anti-Christian, authoritarian regime? In late March, 2026, Finland’s Supreme Court shocked the world. Prodded by a relentless state prosecutor, the court convicted Paivi Rasanen — a member of Finland’s Parliament and a former interior minister – under the country’s criminal code designated for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
What did this Christian grandmother and medical doctor do to warrant such a conviction? She helped write a pamphlet 20years ago that expressed biblical views about sexual morality.
Shockingly, Paivi had already been prosecuted for these trumped up charges - twice! The Finnish courts in those cases examined the evidence and concluded the obvious: no crime had been committed. But the prosecutor kept appealing the case, finally reaching the Finnish Supreme Court. And that’s where this farce unfolded.
What exactly happened and why?
