They start with the U.S.-Canada trade war showing no signs of resolution. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is in Europe this week pushing for a "unique alliance" between Canada and the EU. They break down what message that sends and what it changes for the longer-term U.S.-Canada relationship.

Voting is now officially underway in North Carolina, but the legal fight over mail-in ballots isn't over. The Supreme Court has blocked Trump's plan to have the U.S. Postal Service screen and potentially withhold mail-in ballots, in a brief unsigned opinion noting the plan was likely unlawful. Trump responded by attacking the justices on social media, writing: "These are not the people I interviewed to serve on the United States Supreme Court, they are merely a shell of their original selves." Aaron breaks down the ruling and the state of voter restriction heading into November.

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) has introduced articles of impeachment against Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, alleging he waged the Iran war illegally, ignored a congressional order to withdraw, and caused unnecessary civilian casualties. Kalshi currently puts the likelihood of Hegseth leaving his job for any reason by December 1st at 29%. Massie's term is ending this year, after he lost his primary. How bold an action is this really?

Republican lawmakers are pushing back on Trump's recent pledge to give every American adult $5,000 if Republicans retain their majority after November. Aaron breaks down why it's actually politically useful for Republicans to distance themselves from this idea right now.

New details have emerged about Donald Trump Jr.'s recent wedding in the Bahamas — including an after-party paid for by a Russian businessman. Aaron breaks down what we know about who Umar Kremlev is and what his connection to the Trump family means.

And finally: after pressure from venue owners, Macklemore has been dropped as an opening act for Ed Sheeran's stadium tour. The pressure came after Macklemore said "Free Palestine" onstage. The internet has a lot of thoughts. Aaron and Jessica react.

Meanwhile, former President Obama is calling on Democrats to move AI oversight to the top of their agenda, and even Elon Musk is asking for more industry oversight. AI stocks have been falling amid mounting safety warnings. Is the bubble bursting?

Looking ahead to 2028: California Governor Gavin Newsom told CNN's Jake Tapper that if Kamala Harris decides to run again, he'll stand down. Does this reflect a genuine lack of momentum for the 2028 field — or top-notch political maneuvering?

Finally, Senator Mitch McConnell returned to the Senate yesterday to cast his first vote after 13 weeks of absence following his hospitalization in mid-June. The 84-year-old Kentucky Republican offered little explanation for the extended absence, which generated intense speculation over his health all summer.

The first-ever GOP midterm convention is underway in Dallas, and a number of high-profile Republicans, particularly those in battleground territory, are notably skipping it. The party has even been offering free tickets to help fill seats, at a moment when Trump's approval rating is at an all-time low and oil hits $100 a barrel amid escalating chaos in the Middle East. Trump is competing with NFL kickoff and insisting the American Airlines Center is "totally sold out." What will the vibes be like on the ground, and more importantly - what will ratings look like? Plus, why Aaron thinks the midterms will be closer races than polls would suggest.

This week marks the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is releasing more than 170,000 pages of city records documenting the government's response to the attacks and their aftermath, launching the city's first public portal dedicated to 9/11 records. But controversy surrounds the commemoration: former Mayor Rudy Giuliani says he doesn't want Mamdani at Friday's ceremony, and Trump falsely claimed that firefighters carried him away from the site after the attacks. Aaron and Jessica break down the commentary around Mamdani, how people are grappling with the tension between honoring families' grief and holding the city accountable, and reflecting on how history repeats itself.

New disclosures show Trump gave three young White House staffers $45,000 each as Christmas gifts — including executive assistant Natalie Harp, who is rarely more than a few feet from the president. A former White House ethics lawyer says the payments may violate federal law. The White House insists they were simply holiday gifts. Is this generosity — or a serious ethical and legal problem?

A senior Anthropic researcher has publicly stated he believes there is more than a 10% chance AI could kill all humans within the next decade — and he's not alone, with several Anthropic researchers now warning publicly that AI could become uncontrollable.
