The Run-Through with Vogue

When Karol G walked into the Vogue studio last week, she was just days out from the start of Viajando por el Mundo Tropitour, her upcoming stadium tour which will take her across the U.S., Latin America, and Europe through summer 2027. On this week's episode of The Run-Through, the Grammy winner and first Latina to headline Coachella told Chloe Malle and guest host Ignacio Murillo, Vogue’s Global Talent Casting Director, that she built the show around the idea of the Latina showgirl. She’s been working since October with a full-time trainer, chef, and recovery specialist on a diet that's less about restriction than precision, with plenty of carbs, minimal processed sugar, and six to eight supplements a meal. With six wardrobe changes and a stage built to span an entire stadium, her costume team adjusts her wardrobe roughly every two weeks as her body changes on the road; her biggest source of anxiety, she said, isn't the choreography but whether the audience's energy matches what she's built.

Karol G is bringing the ambitious production to countries many stadium tours skip, including Peru, Guatemala, and Panama, even though moving the show by plane across Latin America (versus truck in the U.S.) makes logistics and costs far harder, a tradeoff she considers worth it.

“For me, my Latina community, they were my first supporters,” Karol said. So for me to keep bringing my show to all those places is super important.”

Her fashion, developed over seven years with stylist Brett Alan Nelson, has shifted from simply chasing cool looks toward using style as a vehicle for cultural identity, with this tour's six segments including Etro, Roberto Cavalli, Gucci, and Chrome Hearts. She also opened up about family, crediting her musician father as her closest creative sounding board.

Elsewhere in the conversation, Karol G confirmed she's done getting tattoos (her three honor Selena, Rihanna, and herself), said she's single and has never used a dating app, and named hot dogs and fries as her ideal first-date food. Viajando por el Mundo Tropitour kicks off July 24 in Chicago.

As a third generation Angelino, Hannah Einbinder reps her city hard. “I pledge allegiance to the United States of Los Angeles,” she declared proudly to Chloe on the latest episode of The Run-Through podcast, “I love LA from the tip to the tail.”

Right now, Einbinder is making the rounds on one of her biggest press tours to date ahead of the premiere of Jane Schoenbrun’s third tongue twister of a film, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma. Einbinder stars as Kris, a young queer director, who is working on a revival of a slasher horror franchise. Prior to working on the project, slashers were a bit of a blindspot for Einbinder, though she was well-versed in the great horror genre and cited Silent Hill as the scariest movie she’s seen.

“I see a huge link between comedy and horror,” Einbinder observed, noting that this film is as funny as it is scary, “I think that it kind of creates the same thing in the body, like this buildup of tension with this big release. I think that's why you see so many, like, comedians go in that direction. Like, you look at Jordan Peele and that, to me, makes so much sense.”

Along those lines, Einbinder pointed out that Schoenbrun actually has a comedy background and did sketch comedy at UCB many moons ago. The two of them became quite close working on the film, which like Schoenbrun’s prior film, I Saw The TV Glow, is a work of autofiction and an allegory for queerness and transition. This film required them to explore topics of dissociation relative to sex. “I feel like many of us have not taken the time to examine how universal it is.”

Einbinder hasn’t yet settled on her look for the premiere, but she is already considering how she is going to accessorize. She intends to visit a New York City based nail artist who uses the moniker claws by joy to get a bloody, slasher style manicure.

As a major Hacks fan, Chloe also brought up her favorite duo: Ava Daniels and Deborah Vance. While the show has reached its conclusion, she and Jean Smart are in regular contact and sharing memes. “She’s absolutely out of control,” Einbinder said of Smart’s meme sharing tendencies.

Einbinder won her first Emmy for the series back in the fall and when asked where she displays it, she sheepishly revealed that she keeps it tucked away. She explained that her grandfather was a decorated war hero and when he passed, the family found all of his medals in a manila envelope in a drawer. “And so I kinda figure if, like, if that guy's not putting his stuff out,” she said trailing off, “I thought he was so swag for doing that.”

When Savannah Miller found out she was pregnant with her fourth child at 47, she knew this was going to be a learning moment. “I can't have a home birth these days. It's not considered to be safe. So I'm having to kind of adjust my expectations around what my birth is gonna look like and just hope that I can kind of retain some of that peaceful, beautiful, connected time with the baby however he comes out,” she told Chioma on this week’s episode of The Run-Through with Vogue.

Inspired by her younger sister, actress Sienna Miller who recently had her third child at 44, Savannah is excited to see her blended family grow and for her husband James (who she married four years ago) to experience being a first time dad. “He’s stunned, to be honest. There are still moments where he's, like, disbelieving, but mostly, he talks to him all the time. And he, plays The Beatles, relentlessly. He's like, "That will be your favorite music."

As for the misconceptions of being an older parent, Savannah believes there are actually more positives than people realize. As someone who had to balance being a young mom to three kids while building a fashion brand, she’s ready to embrace ease and also confide in her support system when needed. “My son's 21 so he's gonna be more like an uncle to this child. Knowing that I have those people that will really kind of hold this child up in his life was a massive kind of helper in deciding that this was a good thing to do.”

With the 4th of July in the rearview mirror, we are nearing (or past, depending on how you measure it) the midpoint of summer and for many of us, that means a little extra time to catch up on all the books, movies, and music that is being released this year. To break down the summer culture standouts, Chloe was joined in the studio by Vogue’s Deputy Editor Taylor Antrim and Senior Fashion Writer Hannah Jackson.

The trio began by discussing the major sports moment that seems to be happening even more this summer than ever before. There’s no shortage of sports to watch—the recent Knicks victory, the WNBA season, Wimbledon and the US Open, the World Cup, and the Tour de France. Taylor, who has been following the cycling, is most closely watching Tadej Pogačar (who apparently looks uncannily like his son) and Jonas Vingegaard, whose beautiful love story was covered in our I.W.W.T.H. column.

They then moved onto cinema. Taylor, as the resident horror watcher, shouted out the two big horror films that have stormed the summer box offices: Backrooms and Obsession, both directed by up and comers. Honorable mentions also went out to The Invite, a film they all saw and loved from Olivia Wilde, and Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma from indie darling Jane Schoenbrun.

The movie with perhaps the most buzz at Vogue this summer is Christopher Nolan’s upcoming remake of The Odyssey. “It’s a thinking person’s blockbuster,” Taylor joked. Though the panelists couldn’t reach consensus on Oppenheimer, they are all jazzed about this pick (though Hannah is a little skeptical of Matt Damon as Odysseus). In keeping with the theme of Odyssey Summer, Chloe’s been reading Greek myths to her children for bedtime stories and listening to the podcast Greeking Out.

When not reading children’s books, Chloe is excited about this summer’s literary offerings, especially those featured in our beach reads story for the summer issue. Some of the picks they have previewed or are looking forward to include Pool House by Mary H.K. Choi, Contrapposto by Dave Eggers, Freedom Essays by Zinzi Clemmons, The Land and Its People by David Sedaris, The Palm House by Gwendolyn Riley, and Book of Hours by Ellen O'Connell Whittet.

It’s also no secret that this has been yet another summer for the pop girls. Olivia Rodrigo’s you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love is Hannah’s favorite Olivia album yet. And the whole team is counting down the days until we get Gracie Abrams ,Charli XCX, and Phoebe Bridgers’ new albums.

This week, Chloe Malle sat down with Vogue France's Claire Thomson-Jonville and Vogue Runway's chief critic Sarah Mower straight from the Balenciaga show at the Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris to unpack the emotional highs of Couture Week's opening days. The trio's biggest topic was Pierpaolo Piccioli's first couture outing for the house, a collection they agreed felt unmistakably like his own after two seasons of ready-to-wear spent reconciling his sensibility with Demna's legacy. Under a blazing midday sun, with Cynthia Erivo, Naomi Watts, and Teyana Taylor among those fanning themselves in the front row, Piccioli sent out feather-heavy, richly colored looks.

The conversation then rewound to Monday's openers, starting with Daniel Roseberry's Schiaparelli show, where a chrome runway and body-conscious, skin-like silicone pieces reflected an unusually experimental research process: rather than his usual research trip, Roseberry said he'd spent time at a company that manufactures silicone baby dolls. From there, talk turned to Jonathan Anderson's second couture collection for Dior, which the panel read as a loosening of the house's codes, with knotted, sculptural details inspired by artist Lynda Benglis softening the rigor of the bar suit into something more fluid and wearable. Matthieu Blazy's fairy-tale-inspired second couture show for Chanel was filled with joy and whimsy, with jacket linings stitched with each model's handwritten to-do list (i.e. “Pizza in fridge.”)

They close on a lighter note about the practical realities of front-row life in a Paris heat wave, from designers rethinking fabric for a warming climate to the season's must-have accessory: a hand fan, tucked into every micro-bag that could fit one.
