Nico & Michaela on making village life work for your family (week 4 of TV) | S2 EP5

    12-2-2026 | 27 Min.
Nico and Michaela have now done two Traveling Villages, and in this episode they share their experience and what it actually takes to make village life work for a family that isn't naturally a "big group" family.
The podcast continues, following 20 families as we travel together through Vietnam, Taiwan, and South Korea as a village. This season, Asha, who joined Traveling Village 1, calls in every week to talk with different people on the trip and follow along from afar. Each episode is around 20 minutes and is meant to give an honest, grounded sense of what village life feels like as it unfolds.
In this fifth episode, Asha talks with Nico and Michaela, a German couple from Bavaria traveling with their six-year-old daughter. They joined Traveling Village 2 and are now back for TV3, co-living with other families across all three destinations. They talk about:
How their daughter went from struggling to find her place in TV2 to thriving in TV3
The honeymoon phase wearing off and what it looks like when village life gets real
Social overstimulation, the Nest, and learning to say no to things that don't work for your family
What it feels like to invest in new relationships when you don't yet know where they'll lead
Feeling unseen or excluded and the personal responsibility it takes to voice your own needs
Why being around people who have chosen a different path is quietly changing how they see their own life
In the next episode, Asha will talk with another family from the village to hear how their experience of Traveling Village 3 is unfolding as the journey continues.
