The podcast continues, following 20 families as we travel together through Vietnam, Taiwan, and South Korea as a village.
This season, Asha, who joined Traveling Village 1, calls in every week to talk with different people on the trip and follow along from afar. Each episode is around 20 minutes and is meant to give an honest, grounded sense of what village life feels like as it unfolds.
In this fourth episode, Asha talks with Paul Millerd, who is part of Traveling Village 3 together with his partner Angie and their almost three-year-old daughter. Paul is the author of The Pathless Path and has spent many years exploring alternative ways of living, working, and raising a family. They talk about:
– Leaving the default life path and building a life with more time, space, and freedom – Fear, uncertainty, and learning to live without a fixed plan – Why taking an alternative path is rarely one big leap, but many small steps – Education vs schooling and how they are thinking about learning for their daughter – Experimenting instead of committing to one "right" way of doing things – Early weeks in the village and how daily life is taking shape – Children forming close bonds across ages, cultures, and languages – The role of older kids in the village and shared care emerging naturally – Gratitude, contribution, and the shift from transactional living to community life – The Nest and how shared spaces change social rhythms – Overstimulation, balance, and finding a pace that works as a family – Preparing for Taiwan and navigating language and cultural differences together – How Traveling Village is expanding their imagination for what comes next
In the next episode, Asha will talk with another family from the village to hear how their experience of Traveling Village 3 is unfolding as the journey continues.
