  • 46. The Good Samaritan
Have you ever walked past a person and thought "man, they look like they could use a hand" or, "I wish I had more time to stop and help them"? If yes, then this episode is for you! This week Meaghan teaches us about the good samaritan experiment that was held at a seminary in the 70's. Then, Marta and Meaghan explore how those findings can be thought about in the current day and what it means for us.  If you're still reading this description, you might be the kind of person who likes to write as well? • 45. WKWD Blooper Reel ;)
It's been just over one year of WKWD, and you know what we've learned? Well, lots about psychology, obviously, but lots about podcasting too. One of the greatest lessons from the past year is that Marta and Meaghan are prone to making mistakes. Seriously! So. many. bloopers. We've gathered up some of our funniest screw ups from the past year and have packed them all together in a nice little bundle for you! Happy New Year listeners, and thanks for listening to us blather on all this time. Cheers to 2019!     If you're still reading this description (does anyone actually read these descriptions?), you might be the kind of person who likes to write as well. • 43. Gender Dysphoria
The moral of today's story is that it's effing hard to have an open and honest conversation while being politically correct. See for yourselves as Meaghan teaches Marta about gender dysphoria, and the difference between sex and gender (a lesson that Marta doesn't seem to grasp). We also talk about:  Gender dysphoria and gender identity Classification, diagnosis, and treatment of gender dysphoria One of Meaghan's top 5 favourite Star Trek Episodes (yes, we went there) Transgender politics and how to have a dialogue while remaining respectful (spoiler: its hard as heck) Sources: Paula Stone TED Talk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrYx7HaUlMY Shannon Thrace TED Talk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3mnUMmUAHQ The Economist: "Transgender Politics Focuses on Who Determines Someone's Gender": https://www.economist.com/briefing/2018/10/25/transgender-politics-focuses-on-who-determines-someones-gender Socials: If you're still reading this description, you might be the kind of person who likes to write as well? • 42. Not Criminally Responsible (NCR)
The Canadian Criminal Code dictates that there are two ways a person can escape immediate prosecution for a crime. Both centre around the mental health of the offender. One option, is to be deemed not criminally responsible, and the other is the be deemed unfit to stand trial. In today’s episode we talk about both of these outcomes, and what happens in order to get deemed not criminally responsible, and what that means for your prosecution. Is it a get out of jail free card? Marta and Meaghan don’t think so, but we’ll let you come to your own conclusions. Sources: That review board study that Marta nerded out about: http://www.justice.gc.ca/eng/rp-pr/csj-sjc/jsp-sjp/rr06_1/toc-tdm.html That other study that Marta nerded out about (Trajectory Project): https://www.mentalhealthcommission.ca/English/document/71181/national-trajectory-project Power of attorney https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_of_attorney Competence (law) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Competence_(law) Fitness to plead https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fitness_to_plead YES MARTA USED LOTS OF WIKIPEDIA SOURCES OKAY! Let me live. There’s some other legitimate sources, but who reads this description anyway. If you’re still reading this description, you might be the kind of person who likes to write as well.
