Bigfoot researcher Daryl Denton recounts the 1992 hunting trip in rural Tennessee that kept him out of the woods for seven years, and the years-long ordeal at his own home that followed decades later. Daryl describes coming face to face with an eight foot tall, snarling Sasquatch, known locally as a Woodbooger, that ripped a tree limb from its base and let out a scream he says lasted what felt like five minutes, all from a tree stand he couldn't easily escape. The conversation moves into a much later chapter of his life, when something began stalking his own property, tearing apart every barn cat overnight, braiding his wildest horse's mane, and ultimately throwing a headless goat at his front door during a two and a half month campaign of harassment. Daryl now researches these creatures full time and co-hosts Two Real Cryptid Legends alongside Bigfoot researcher Ron Morehead on the United Public Radio Network.

In This Episode
•      Daryl Denton opens with the encounter that changed the course of his life: a black powder deer hunting trip in November of 1992 on his grandfather's rural Tennessee farm, during opening week of muzzle loader season. Daryl and three close friends had hunted the same five mile radius of connecting farms for years without incident.  
•      Settled into a tree stand overlooking a creek, Daryl heard something enormous moving through a thick thicket of cane, snapping shoots he knew from experience took real weight and force to break. Expecting the biggest buck of his life, he readied his black powder rifle, only for something roughly 15 to 16 feet of cane-height movement to stop just short of the clearing.  
•      What stepped out instead was a creature Daryl estimated at eight feet tall, standing on the game trail before leaping a 10 to 12 foot wide creek in a single step and walking directly toward his position. It turned and looked straight at him, its face twisted with what looked like an old injury or deformity on one side of its mouth, showing its teeth and growling.  
•      Frozen in the stand with only one shot available and a reload time of nearly two minutes, Daryl watched the creature walk a few feet away, grab the scent rag he'd hung in a nearby tree, smell it, then tear an entire limb out of the tree and throw it to the ground, all while maintaining eye contact. It let out a scream Daryl describes as feeling like it lasted five minutes, though he estimates it was closer to five seconds, unlike any sound he'd heard before or since.  
•      That encounter kept Daryl out of the woods entirely for the next seven years before he slowly worked his way back in, eventually turning his fear into full time research and field investigation into Bigfoot and Sasquatch sightings, including attending events like the first annual Paris Dogman conference.  
•      Decades later, Daryl describes an entirely separate ordeal that unfolded at his own home, where something began stalking his property for roughly two and a half months. Every one of the roughly 30 barn cats that lived on his land, ones he'd fed nightly for years, turned up torn apart, seemingly grabbed behind the head and pulled apart by something far stronger than any known predator in the area.  
•      The harassment escalated from there: flood lights broken, a pool gate bent, tree limbs and shrubs torn up, and strangest of all, the mane of his wildest, unrideable horse found carefully braided, something no person could have safely gotten close enough to do. Daryl, who was serving as mayor at the time, brought in local officers to patrol the property, but the activity would stop the moment they arrived and resume the second they left.  
•      The situation came to a head one night when Daryl spotted two of the creatures walking past his front windows onto his wraparound porch. After flipping the porch lights on and hearing them flee, something slammed hard against his front door minutes later. Opening it, Daryl nearly tripped over a dead, headless goat, an animal that belonged to no one in the area, left directly in his doorway.  
•      Daryl finally walked into his own front yard in the middle of the night and shouted a direct challenge into the dark, daring whatever was out there to finish it, and sat outside armed until daylight. Whatever had been stalking his property never returned. Rich recounts having his DNA flagged during a routine blood draw, discovering years later that a close friend was actually his handler, and waking up three days later with no memory after a sudden illness while playing cards on a military base. •      Government contractor Rich is going public for the first time about a string of events he still can't fully explain, starting back in 2008 when financial hardship pushed him to take an overseas contracting job for the money. What began as routine maintenance work on military bases in Iraq slowly turned into something Rich now believes was a long-running recruitment effort he never agreed to.  
•      A man Rich considered a close friend, someone he trusted enough to store his motorcycle with, turned out to be quietly monitoring him the entire time. The friend would show up with unsettling knowledge of Rich's private conversations and repeatedly told him he needed to start playing by the rules, a phrase Rich now understands as pressure to comply with a recruitment he never consented to.  
•      Before deploying, Rich went through what he was told were routine vaccinations and a blood draw, supposedly for identification purposes in case something happened to him overseas. He didn't question it at the time, but it's the moment he now believes his DNA was first flagged by whoever was tracking him.  
•      One of the strangest incidents happened while Rich was playing cards with a female DoD contractor outside their living quarters on base. He suddenly felt ill, went to lie down, and woke up three days later with only a slight headache and no memory of what happened in between, an experience he kept to himself for roughly a decade before telling anyone.  
•      That same DoD contractor, who Rich says was deployed directly through Langley to Ramadi, was rumored among his contacts to belong to something referred to only as a wolf pack. Rich describes a specific memory, one he isn't fully certain is real, of watching her transform into a seven foot tall, pale, fur covered, dog faced creature right in front of him while the two were hanging out.  
•      Rich later discovered he had a do not detain flag attached to his license, something no one explained to him at the time and that he only learned about after being waved through a situation that should have gotten him in trouble. Years afterward, when he finally pressed his handler on why he'd been targeted in the first place, the answer was simply that his DNA had been flagged during that original blood draw.  
•      That answer sent Rich down his own research path into bloodlines, epigenetics, and whether trauma itself can alter a person's genetic markers enough to draw attention. His wife has told him his eyes visibly change color depending on his mood, going jet black when he's angry and shifting to gray or yellow at other times, something Rich has no medical explanation for.  
•      Rich also describes trying to independently verify his DNA results, only to discover that every genetic testing service in the country, no matter how private it appears on the surface, is ultimately tied to government oversight. He was later told by his handler that he'd been declined from whatever program was being considered for him because he was deemed uncontrollable.
