Host Andy Murphy interviews self-defense expert Dr. Jeremy Butler about practical personal safety for families. Dr. Butler explains that personal safety is a life skill and recommends investing in three areas: firearms training (when appropriate and trained), self-defense/martial arts with a true protection focus, and holistic safety measures such as home security and ongoing education.
 
He argues for studying violence through videos for observational learning while protecting mental health. Butler teaches "Practicing the ARTS" (Avoid, Run, Talk, Strike), emphasizing awareness, escape, verbal de-escalation, distance management, and "preparing your witnesses" with clear commands and non-threatening posture.
