What If Your Sensitivity Was Always Trying to Guide You? Growing Up in a Funeral Home, Mediumship & Becoming Fully Yourself with Kerstin Caldwell
14-09-2026 | 1 u. 2 Min.What if the parts of yourself you once tried to suppress were actually trying to guide you all along?
My connection with this week’s guest, medium Kerstin Caldwell, began with one of the most extraordinary remote-viewing experiences I’ve ever had.
During a development exercise, Kerstin held a place from her childhood in her awareness while I attempted to perceive it without knowing where she had taken me. I began describing a large brick building, its atmosphere, rooms, emotions and memories — before the film My Girl suddenly dropped into my consciousness.
That was the moment everything clicked.
Kerstin had grown up in a funeral home.
Her father was a mortician and funeral director, and death, grief and the unseen world formed part of the landscape of her childhood. But alongside that came a sensitivity she didn’t yet understand — experiences, feelings and perceptions that weren’t always recognised or encouraged by the adults around her.
In this conversation, Kerstin and I explore what happens when a sensitive child grows into an adult who finally begins to understand the language of their own body, intuition and consciousness.
We talk about growing up surrounded by death, complicated relationships with our fathers, grief and healing after someone passes, and the possibility that relationships can continue to evolve even after physical death.
Kirsten also shares her remarkable journey into improvisational comedy and teaching — and why the principles of improv have become so intertwined with the way she now understands mediumship.
Because both ask something very similar of us:
Can we stop trying to control what happens next?
Can we remain present?
Can we trust what arrives?
And can we allow ourselves to be fully ourselves?
We also explore the nervous system and sensitivity, the impact of trauma, meditation, energetic overwhelm, psychic awareness, children who appear naturally sensitive to the unseen world, spiritual protection, understanding your own energy and why mediumship should never become about squeezing ourselves into somebody else’s way of working.
There’s a theme running underneath this entire conversation that I think matters enormously:
Perhaps development isn’t always about becoming something new.
Perhaps sometimes it is about removing everything that taught us not to trust who we already were.
Kerstin puts it beautifully towards the end of our conversation — her aim is to become the “me-est me” she can possibly be, while giving other people permission to become the fullest expression of themselves too.
And maybe that is part of the spiritual journey for all of us.
To become more present.
More curious.
More playful.
Less afraid of getting it wrong.
And more willing to discover what becomes possible when we stop trying quite so hard to be anything other than ourselves.

Support the show- This is a very personal episode of Soul Sync, recorded on my birthday and at what feels like one of the biggest crossroads of my life.
After ten years of building and running my legal recruitment business, I’ve finally stepped away from the identity that shaped so much of my adult life. I didn’t necessarily leave with the outcome I once imagined, but somewhere along the way the question stopped being, “How much can I get from this?” and became, “What is my soul actually asking me to do?”
Over the summer, I gave myself permission to stop, breathe and immerse myself in mediumship. And something has shifted.
My recent week at the Arthur Findlay College moved me more deeply than I expected. Through demonstrations, experiments, synchronicities and some extraordinary experiences with the spirit world, I found myself becoming increasingly humbled by the intelligence behind spirit communication — and by what it truly means to serve it.
In this episode, I talk openly about that journey, including a powerful communication with a young boy in spirit during the final days of the course, what it taught me about staying in the power rather than getting ahead of the communication, and why I’ve begun to think very differently about development, evidence and even the importance of getting a “no”.
I also explore why I believe psychic development is such an important foundation for mediumship, how spirit can use our own memories, emotions and lived experiences as a language through which to communicate, and why mediumship has begun to feel stronger and more natural since I stopped forcing life in a direction that no longer felt right.
And, perhaps most importantly, I share the decision I’ve finally made.
I’m taking the leap.
I’m stepping fully into my mediumship and into a life that feels much more aligned with who I am and what I feel I’m here to do.
There is a lot more coming on Soul Sync over the next few weeks — conversations about mediumship development, psychic awareness, sitting in the power, understanding spirit communication and some of the experiments that have completely changed the way I think about this work.
For now, though, this is simply me checking in with you from the middle of the change rather than waiting until I have everything figured out.
Because sometimes life begins to flow when we finally stop fighting where it is trying to take us.

Support the show The Intelligence of Spirit: How the Unseen World Communicates Through Us with Nicole Powell
07-09-2026 | 44 Min.What if the spirit world is far more intelligent — and far more creative — in the way it communicates with us than we sometimes realise?
In this episode of Soul Sync, I’m joined by Canadian spiritual medium, author and teacher Nicole Powell for a conversation about mediumship, grief, creativity, trust and the extraordinary intelligence behind spirit communication.
Nicole’s relationship with death and the unseen world began at a young age. After the tragic death of a childhood friend, she found herself asking questions that would ultimately shape the direction of her life: Where do we go? What happens after death? Is this really the end?
Years later, following the passing of her grandmother, Nicole’s mediumship seemed to open almost overnight.
What followed was years of development, repeated journeys from Canada to the UK to study evidential mediumship at the Arthur Findlay College, and eventually the realisation that learning the rules of mediumship is only part of the journey.
At some point, we have to discover how Spirit communicates through us.
Nicole shares a wonderful example of this during the conversation. Days before giving a public demonstration, she simply noticed a miniature golf course while driving past it. Later, during a mediumistic connection, Spirit brought that seemingly insignificant memory back into her awareness — and it became the piece of evidence that identified the communicator.
For Nicole, this is the intelligence of Spirit.
The spirit world can work with our memories, experiences, imagination, senses, environment and entire human life to create communication.
We explore:
• Nicole’s early experiences with death and why they created a lifelong fascination with the afterlife
• How mediumship changes our relationship with grief without removing grief itself
• Evidential mediumship, psychic work, intuition and prophecy
• Why Nicole travelled repeatedly from Canada to England to study mediumship
• The moment her own mediumistic ability suddenly opened
• Learning to trust yourself rather than constantly questioning “Is this me or Spirit?”
• Why getting a “no” during mediumship can actually help you go deeper
• How Spirit may use experiences from days — or even years — earlier as part of a communication
• The extraordinary intelligence behind evidential mediumship
• Why Nicole believes mediums need to live a full human life
• Moving beyond rigid rules and discovering your own expression of mediumship
• Trance, altered states, voice and becoming a creative channel
• Why creativity, authenticity and self-expression may become increasingly important in the years ahead
• The difference between absorbing spiritual knowledge and actually expressing something through your own soul
This became a conversation about much more than mediumship.
It is about trusting the intelligence behind life itself.
Perhaps we don’t have to understand every mechanism through which Spirit communicates.
Perhaps our job is simply to become available to it.

Support the show- Following a week immersed in mediumship development at the Arthur Findlay College, Jason reflects on the extraordinary intelligence of the spirit world, experiments with blindfolded mediumship and remote viewing, communication from his dad, consciousness beyond the physical body, and why serving spirit is ultimately an exercise in humility, trust and allowing.
After a week immersed in mediumship development at the Arthur Findlay College, I wanted to sit down and share some of the thoughts, experiences and experiments that have genuinely stopped me in my tracks.
The more I develop my mediumship, the more humbled I become by the extraordinary intelligence behind spirit communication.
Think about what we ask of the spirit world.
To communicate through another person's consciousness. To work with memories, images, feelings, emotions and experiences that belong to the medium. To somehow translate a life, a personality and a relationship into something another human being can recognise.
And then, as mediums, we occasionally make it even harder by trying to control exactly how that communication should arrive.
In this short Soul Sync reflection, I talk about some of the experiments I've been doing this week — including blindfolded mediumship, working without feedback, remote viewing and platform work — and why they have made me reconsider the limits we place on both ourselves and the spirit world.
I also share something deeply personal.
My dad has communicated several times since his passing, and this week I received another communication that really touched my heart. Our relationship wasn't always straightforward in life, yet I've found myself experiencing what feels like an evolution of that relationship since his passing.
It has made me think deeply about healing, consciousness and what might happen when we return to the spirit world.
We also explore why emotion is such an important part of mediumship, why constantly searching for the next piece of evidence can take us out of the power, and why developing mediumship should perhaps involve much more experimentation — and much less fear of getting something wrong.
Above everything else, this week reminded me of something very simple:
It is an extraordinary privilege to serve a world as intelligent as the spirit world.
A short, personal reflection on mediumship, consciousness, spirit communication, human potential and what I'm learning as my own mediumship continues to evolve.

Support the show What If We’re Not Meant to Transcend Being Human? Kundalini, Embodiment & the Divine Feminine with Cynthia Abulafia
03-09-2026 | 40 Min.What if the spiritual path isn’t about escaping the human experience — but learning to inhabit it more fully?
In this episode of Soul Sync, I’m joined by author, educator and yoga therapist Cynthia Abulafia, whose work challenges what she describes as our spiritual bias towards transcendence.
Cynthia asks a fascinating question: after we’ve climbed the ladder towards expanded states of consciousness, awakening and the Divine… what happens when we climb back down into the body?
We explore Cynthia’s own transcendent experience at the age of 12, why the body and ordinary human life may be just as sacred as the states we’re so often trying to reach, and why awakening isn’t always the blissful experience it’s made out to be.
We also get into Kundalini awakening — what it actually means, what can trigger it, and why it can radically reorganise someone’s experience of reality.
Along the way, we talk about religion, conditioning, grief, the Divine Feminine and one of my favourite ideas from the whole conversation: that curiosity may be the beginning, middle and end of the spiritual path. Cynthia also explores the importance of reclaiming our sovereignty rather than continually looking outside ourselves for someone else to provide the answers.
Perhaps awakening isn’t about leaving this life behind.
Perhaps it’s about arriving more fully into it.
Cynthia is the author of Embodying the Goddess: How to Awaken Curiosity and Reverence on the Spiritual Path. Her work centres on embodiment, the Divine Feminine and restoring curiosity and reverence to spiritual practice.
