Dutch Dialogues (A2) - DD124: 03 apr — Duitsers laten vakantie afweten, Rick snapt het niet (Rick, Emma & Lars)

    03-04-2026 | 4 Min.
So apparently vakantiehuisjes in Nederland are getting way more expensive this year. Like, a lot more expensive. Especially around Pasen (Easter).

Emma and Lars are chatting about why this is happening, and here's the ding: the Germans aren't booking as much as usual. Normally they're everywhere during the holidays, but now? Not so much. And that's making things interesting for Dutch families trying to plan a weekend away.

Here's what I'm curious about: when prices go up like this, do you still book that huisje by the beach, or do you just stay home and make the best of it? Maybe invite some friends over, lekker barbecueën in the tuin?

This episode is perfect for practicing your A2 listening. We keep it slow, we keep it real, and yeah, you'll pick up some handy words about vakantie and geld along the way.

Kleine stappen tellen, mensen. Just press play and see how much you understand. You got this!

Dutch Dialogues (A2) - DD123: 02 apr — 1,4 miljard mensen tellen?! Rick gaat al gek van z'n buren (Rick, Pieter &

    02-04-2026 | 4 Min.
So apparently India is doing the biggest volkstelling (census) in the world right now. We're talking about counting more than a billion people. Ja, je leest het goed... billion!

In this episode, I chat with Pieter and Lisa about how this whole thing works and why it's such a big deal. We talk about the challenges, the numbers (altijd leuk voor practice!), and what it means for a country that huge.

Here's something to think about: when was the last volkstelling in your country? Do you even remember filling one out? Or did your parents do it?

This is perfect A2 listening practice. Real conversation, everyday Dutch, and a topic that's actually interesting. Kleine stappen tellen, and you're doing great!

    Goed bezig! 🧡

Dutch Dialogues (A2) - DD122: 01 apr — Topman ontslagen omdat hij geen Frans spreekt?! (Rick, Sophie & Daan)

    01-04-2026 | 3 Min.
So apparently the boss of Air Canada had to step down because... he doesn't speak French. Ja echt, that actually happened!

Sophie and Daan talk about why this is such a big deal in Canada, where both English and French are official languages. They wonder: should a CEO of a national airline really speak both languages?

Here's something to think about: if you were running a company in a country with two official languages, would you learn both? Or is English "good enough"?

Look, I get it. Learning a new language is hard work. But kleine stappen tellen, right? You're here, listening to Dutch, doing the work. That's what matters.

    Goed bezig! 🧡

Dutch Dialogues (A2) - DD121: 31 mrt — Mr. Leather draagt álles van leer?! (Rick, Sophie & Daan)

    31-03-2026 | 4 Min.
So apparently there's a guy in Den Bosch who wears leather... everything. Leather pants, leather ties, leather boots. And he just became Mr. Leather Netherlands. Tof, right?

In this episode, Sophie, Daan and I talk about Tio and why he loves his leren kleding so much. We also chat about why some people think it's scary (spoiler: it's not), and what it means to just be yourself.

Here's a question for you: do you have something you wear or do that makes you feel totally like yourself? Maybe it's not leather, but we all have our ding, right?

Remember, you don't need to understand every single word. Just listen, pick up what you can, and enjoy the ride. Kleine stappen tellen!

    Goed bezig!

Dutch Dialogues (A2) - DD120: 30 mrt — Chantal Janzen zingt nu Limburgs?! (Rick, Emma & Lars)

    30-03-2026 | 3 Min.
So apparently there's a new nummer één in the Dutch charts, and it's got a pretty special story behind it. Lex Uiting and Chantal Janzen made a song together, and it's called "Letste Leedje" (that's Limburgs dialect, by the way). The twist? It's Lex's last song. Ever.

In this episode, Emma, Lars and I talk about why this song hit number one and what makes it so bijzonder for people. We keep it simple, but there's some real emotion in this one.

Here's my question for you: do you have a favorite Dutch song? Maybe one that makes you feel nostalgic, or just gets stuck in your head? Doesn't have to be fancy, gewoon something you like.

Remember, listening to Dutch music is one of the best ways to train your oor. Even if you only catch a few words, that's totally fine. Kleine stappen tellen!

Lekker bezig with your Dutch today!
