#293 The Hidden Weight of Clutter: How Your Environment Affects Your Health and Healing with Heather Aardema
In today's episode of How Humans Heal I'm talking with Heather Aardema. She is the founder of the School of Living Lighter and is a Board Certified Decluttering Coach who helps people understand what's underneath the reason for clutter using a holistic approach. I'm so glad to have her here with us to help us understand what a different it can make and how to get started. Needing to declutter is quite common. I, myself have been going through a decluttering process the past couple of years while rebuilding my house, so I know firsthand how valuable it is. And I was talking to a patient the other day whose daughter recently went to college. She was experiencing "empty nest syndrome" and found herself looking around her home thinking "what is all this stuff doing here?" When we realize that our desk is piled with stuff and the drawers are overfilled, that's when we know we need to declutter. To some degree, it's part of the human experience because we're so busy keeping up with life. When we finally go through a change that allows us to take time to look around our space, that's when we realize that we have too much stuff and need to declutter. But what if all the clutter is having a negative impact on our health and out life? What if we become intentional about decluttering? What kinds of shifts could happen when we get to the bottom of the pile and create space? Heather shares that it can make a massive difference in our day-to-day life when we address our clutter. The clutter feels heavy, and it's not just a feeling. There's physiology to clutter. If we perceive it, our cortisol is going to go through the roof. Our stuff is more energy than matter, and it really can make an impact on how we show up, the decisions that we make, and the way we live our lives. We're here to help you! #292 Self-Care During the Holidays: Simple Strategies to Feel Better, Not Worse, This Season
Hi and welcome to How Humans Heal. I'm Dr. Doni Wilson, and in this episode I'm going to talk about how to take care of ourselves and our health during the holidays. Very often what I hear from people is that we hit a certain point in the year and then when the holidays start happening—no matter which country you live in and no matter which holidays you observe—the holidays can really throw off your healthcare routine. Next thing you know, months go by and you find yourself coming out of it thinking, "What just happened to me?" And you have to start all over again. I want to share some tips with you so that hopefully I can help you to change that pattern and even improve your health during the holidays. These same tips will help you if you're under stress of any type. A lot of times, if you're going through a point in your life where there's a lot of activity, extra things going on, extra demands emotionally and physically on yourself, that's when we tend to take care of ourselves LESS when we should be taking care of ourselves more. I want to encourage you that it is possible to learn to take care of yourself during times of stress. It's start with awareness and a willingness to observe ourselves. And specifically, a willingness to be gentle and loving with yourself instead of judging yourself or being critical or harsh on yourself. I'm here to help you! #291 The Glutathione Revolution: Why This Antioxidant Is Your Body's Best Defense Against Disease with Dr. Nayan Patel
Hi and welcome to How Humans Heal. I'm Dr. Doni Wilson, and in today's episode I'm talking with Dr. Nayan Patel. He's a PharmD (a pharmacist) and owns two compounding pharmacies. Dr. Patel is also the author of "The Glutathione Revolution: Fight Disease, Slow Aging, and Increase Energy." #290 Burnout and HPV: The Hidden Connection Your Doctor Isn't Telling You About
What does burnout have to do with testing positive for high risk HPV? What does cortisol have to do with getting an abnormal pap smear result? If you're wondering whether stress, burnout, and cortisol have anything to do with why you have an abnormal pap smear and potentially abnormal cells, you're in the right place because that's exactly what I'm going to talk about here. I'm Dr. Doni Wilson, a naturopathic doctor, certified professional midwife, and clinical nutritionist. I've been helping women for over 25 years to resolve abnormal pap smears and high risk HPV so they can get HPV to negative and keep it negative. You don't have to be on the vicious cycle of repeat procedures and never-ending high risk HPV (human papilloma virus). Research shows that our immune system has the capability to clear high risk HPV to negative—all different types, including the 14 high risk types—no matter how long you've had it, your age, or when you were exposed to it.
